Once called the Pearl of Asia, Phnom Penh still today a very fascinating destination.
The architecture of the beautiful Royal Palace, right in the centre of the Capital, attract tourists in the day and locals in the evening for a picnic dinner on its lawn. The Art Museum still popular for playing traditional songs and dances of the Khmer culture.
In the quite unbearable heat of the days, you often see Cambodians resting in hammocks, public benches or even on motorbikes, saving as much energy as possible. In the evenings they all gather by the riverside in the hope of a fresh breeze. There, they walk, they exercise, they discuss, they play. Life starts again! And then, the night life goes on with street food stalls and restaurants, bars, night-clubs, karaokes, hairdressers and so on… Until the morning, the city stays awake. Actually, the city never sleeps!
Phnom Penh has the energy of a young city, populated by lively and friendly people, as well as the slow pace of a traditional South Asian town.
The economy of the city is split into small family shops and big International companies. Locals walk side by side with expats and tourists.
New buildings coexist alongside crumbling old ones and Chinese buildings are built up next to old French colonial houses.
A perfect example of the Capital city of a modernising country that keeps the nostalgic charm of a time passed away. A prime choice city for all Photography lovers : Street Photography or most generally Travel Photography.
