Napoli Rhapsody.
Italy is a land full of contrasts from the diversity of its geography and climates to the so many identities, cultures, dialects, food, arts….It is indeed quite difficult to truly resume this captivating boot-shape territory stretching from the Alps to the African continent.
And Napoli, Naples, is an outstanding exemple of this!
A country within the country. An exoticism. A character. A theatre. An experience. An outsider. A rebel. A daughter of a glorious past. An enchantress.
The Incredible and Singular
An authentic travel experience and an enthralling Travel Photography, especially for its Street Photography and Portraits.
Vibrant, multi-cultural, beautiful and refined, messy and noisy, busy and lazy, pious and blasphemous, gentle and harsh, generous and sneaky, welcoming… Naples is intensely alive!
She has that singular combination that makes it an absolutely unbelievable and unique city. And for photographers, Naples Street Photography is totally enthralling.
Refinement and sophistication, the heritage of prosperous times
Once one of the most important and prosperous city of the continent, Naples still has a sophisticated and refined look. A now somewhat crumbling look that gives a nostalgic touch to this major port town. Greeks, Romans, Spanish, French… the City holds all this influence in its heart, in its arts, on its walls. But nowadays, the town has two faces that you clearly see while you walk across the stylish and rich individual houses or the teeming popular buildings, the big avenues or the narrow streets.
Rich and popular, refined and rough, artistic and practical, Naples is complex and complete. An inner elegance, across the ages, that makes Neapolitans naturally proud. And if you take the time, the people will share with you the beauty of their city with quite an unconditional love. And often, singing it…
The Panoramic
An absolutely singular metropolis framed in an amazing landscape.
The city spreads up to the foot of the living Vesuvio volcano (on the volcano itself!) and faces the beautiful Gulf of Naples and its exotic islands of Ischia and Capri.
From there, you can also explore the well-known Amalfitan Coast, an iconic area of winding roads overlooking a blue-green paradisiac sea and small towns built on a wild cliff-side.
Naples has therefore many good reasons to attract people, among which natural and very photogenic landscapes surroundings.
The Rebel & Drama Queen
Out of Time, of space, of rules, Naples has her proper rules and organisation.
The rebel and bohemian of Southern Europe. Such an exotic city where you feel a mix of Asia, Africa, Europe, Balkans…
She is popular and resourceful. Known as deceitful, she can also be dangerous for the reckless, the naive or the sleepy one. The famous street artist Banksy even left his own impression on a wall nearby the most fearful quarter of Forcella : The Madonna with a gun. But, if you are prudent and awake, avoiding some of the quarter by yourself and/or by night, you will never feel discomfort or fear. Quite the opposite : you will enjoy it so much if you are friendly and open.
Famous for its kitsch, she is truly a drama queen. The open theatre of a passionate latin blood. Romantics of the modern times. A delightful wandering around where you can catch up some moments of this daily comedy and encounter some of the most original and eccentric characters you’ll ever meet!
The sweet Art of Indulgence
Speaking of delight, she is the Queen of the Kitchen too. The food there is incredibly delicious. Seen and thought as heavy, it is actually light and very digestible. Unless, you don’t move at all for the day! Unless, you didn’t have one of these deliciously strong coffee! But if you do so, the pizza, the pasta, the creamy sweets with pistachio and almond flavors…all seem to flow in your body as air and water. Strange sensation for sure!
To sum up, the City has so many reasons to be a very exciting destination. Speaking of which, Naples street photography is a real must for the amateurs of this genre but more generally, the city is an incredible and totally singular stop to include in a general Travel Photography of Italy.
