Morocco : The 1001 Eyes of the streets.
If Morocco is an absolutly fascinating country for the travel photographer, for its landscapes, portraits and architecture, it is in no way, less captivating for the ‘pure’ street photographer.
Indeed the combination of the architecture’s refinement to the hectic lively hustle of a multi-ethnic population makes a truly thrilling street photography. Colours, folklore, traditions and modernity blend together to give a unique touch to the moroccan cities. The opportunities for good street photos are honestly, everywhere! But the occasions are pretty hard too.
Actually, we found the people of the cities very sharp, awake and crafty, as we could say.
In the maze of the old quarters’ narrow streets, 1001 eyes hidden behind each corner, had already totally scanned you before you even noticed their shadows. And as soon as you put your hand on your camera, faces tend to turn over, get an hostile expression and sometimes even get angry. So, we did find pretty difficult to get many pictures of people in the streets.
You have to either get to know the people, find the open person or steal snap shots so you would get a true feeling of the local life in the Moroccan streets.
But once you get it, you can be very happy! Because Morocco Street Photography is pure exotism and folklore. The traditional clothes, the mosaics, the carvings, the shapes, patterns and designs everywhere, the light filtering through the high walls of the old streets’ kasbahs, the ancient traditions and habits. It still has a strong touch of a timeless travel photography…
